Good Comany

The Hollywood Prevue Stakes (Grade 3) was contested on Nov 23 and won by a promising two year old colt named Jack O' Lantern. Of course, promising is a word used to describe any young colt that provides such a performance.

The auctioneer's hammer only tells you what the horse is worth at that particular moment. When the colt that would be named Jack O' Lantern went through the auction ring last year he brought the modest sum of $10,500 for his breeders, Equus Farm. The colt had chips in his ankles, a gangly appearance and a blue-collar pedigree. Not much to look at, then again, most eyes at the Kentucky nursery were on his more appealing pasture buddies as they frolicked across the paddocks as youngsters. One of them being a colt named Perfect Bull.
