Glory Days

Back in the good ol' days, waxing nostalgia, and days of auld lang syne…the journey of life is filled with fond memories. Reminiscing about days gone by allows us to define who we are and where we have been. Looking back on those special moments in life, we often wish we could do it all over again. Sometimes we find that opportunity.

Louie Roussel III and Ronnie Lamarque found that chance with their winning bid of $215,000 for a colt by Cherokee Run at the Fasig-Tipton Two Year Old in Training Sale. That colt's entry in this edition of the Run for the Roses revives memories two decades old. In 1988 they brought Risen Star to the Kentucky Derby with their sights firmly set on a sweep of the Triple Crown. While the son of the immortal Secretariat would take the second and third jewels of the elusive crown in dramatic fashion, he would exit Churchill Downs with a third place effort to the front-running filly Winning Colors.

Now twenty years later, that opportunity lies with their aptly named colt, Recapturetheglory, who carries them back to Louisville on the First Saturday in May off the colt's gate-to-wire victory in the Illinois Derby.
