The Dean

Perfect Bull has been installed as the morning-line favorite for the $50,000 Dean Kutz Stakes to be contested Friday, July 3 at Canterbury Park. The one-mile turf event is open to any three-year old and includes a field of five Kentucky-breds, two Florida-breds and our very own Minnesota-bred. The feature is carded as race nine, post time 8:01pm CT.

The race is a memorial to Sykeston ND native Dean Kutz. The accomplished jockey was inducted to the North Dakota Sports Hall of Fame as well as received the 2001 George Woolf Award and the 2002 Mike Venezia Award. He was also the first jockey inducted into the Canterbury Downs Hall of Fame.

Dean Butler will be reunited with the colt as they carry the Red & Black colors. Butler wasn't aboard the colt in his previous start as earlier that day he had been thrown from his mount and suffered an injury that prevented him from riding that evening. With the jockey healed and the colt as ornery as ever, a good trip should cement Perfect Bull as the dean of the MN sophomore class.
